Bible Reading - Week 50

WEEK 50

This week you will focus on the life and ministry of the apostle Paul. Ask God to speak to you through the faithful apostle.

 

Philippians 1:21 For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

 

DAY 1 Acts 27-28

  • How does Paul know the men will be saved although the ship will be lost?
  • According to Paul, what would have happened to some sailors if they had tried to escape from the ship?
  • What happens to Paul shortly after coming ashore on the island of Malta?
  • What does Paul do for Publius’s father and the rest of those on the island who have diseases?
  • Where is Paul permitted to live in Rome?
  • What does Paul do for two years in Rome?

 

DAY 2 Philippians 1-4

  • As you read Philippians, look for how Paul promotes Christian unity and walking worthy of the gospel.
  • How does Paul’s imprisonment advance the gospel?
  • What actions does Paul want the Philippians to take in order to improve their unity?
  • What makes Timothy and Epaphroditus stand out as reliable helpers of Paul?
  • Summarize the differences between the “dogs,” that is, the “evil-workers,” and Paul.
  • Ask the Lord for the grace to rejoice more, worry less, and to think excellent thoughts.

 

DAY 3 Philemon; Colossians 1-4

  • How is the institution of slavery subtly undermined by Paul in Philemon? Hint: the key is in verses 16-17.
  • Notice how Paul does not refer Onesimus as a slave when he refers to him in Colossians 4:9.
  • Be on the lookout for how Christ-centered Colossians is as you read.
  • What do you learn about Epaphras, Tychicus, Onesimus, Aristarchus, and Mark that is worthy of imitation?
  • What threat to the Colossian church is Paul concerned about in chapter 2?
  • According to chapter 3, why is God’s wrath coming?
  • Take note of Paul’s exhortation to be devoted to prayer.

 

DAY 4 Ephesians 1-4

  • Ephesians stresses church unity, Christian living, and spiritual warfare, so look for these as you read.
  • Summarize in your own words Paul’s prayers for the Ephesians in chapters 1 and 3.
  • Who is the key to unity, according to chapter 2?
  • Based on chapter 4, how can you keep anger and other sins from taking control of your life?

 

DAY 5 Ephesians 5-6; Titus 1-3

  • Paul issues numerous commands in the last chapters of Ephesians. You should meditate on these throughout the day and ask God to help you obey them.
  • Be sure to put on the armor Paul mentions in chapter 6.
  • Why does Paul leave Titus in Crete?
  • What are the qualifications of an elder?
  • According to chapter 2, what are the responsibilities of older men? Older women? Young women? Young men? Titus? Slaves?
  • Look for ways Paul refutes the error that you can be a follower of Christ without demonstrating a change of life.

 

DAY 6 1 Timothy 1-6

  • 1 Timothy provides instruction for dealing with false teachers. It also gives practical guidelines that help the church function more effectively, so look for these as you read.
  • How should men and women conduct themselves in church?
  • What similarities and differences are there between the qualifications for elders versus those for deacons?
  • In 4:16 Paul instructs Timothy to pay close attention to his life and his teaching. Why are both important?
  • What does Paul teach about the love of money?
