Bible Reading - Week 30

WEEK 30

Early in the week, the readings will focus on the end of Hezekiah’s reign. Then the readings will move into the more hopeful texts of the latter part of Isaiah. You will also encounter three psalms which deal with themes similar to those in Isaiah.

VERSE OF THE WEEK

Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on him, and we are healed by his wounds.

DAY 1 Isaiah 38-39; 2 Kings 20; 2 Chronicles 32:24-33

  • Look today for three things: Hezekiah’s illness, the Lord’s gracious healing of Hezekiah, and Hezekiah’s pride.
  • Take some time to examine your heart. Where do you find yourself struggling with pride? Repent of that and ask the Lord for his help to display humility over pride.

DAY 2 Isaiah 40-42; Psalm 46

  • Isaiah 1-39 provides many calls for Israel and Judah to repent or be defeated. From chapter 40 onward both nations are in exile but the Lord offers them comfort. These chapters promise a day when God restores and blesses his people again.
  • According to chapter 40, what are some ways God is different from idols?
  • What things does the Lord say in chapter 41 to encourage his people?
  • Isaiah 41:1-4 is attributed to Jesus in Matthew 12:18-21.

DAY 3 Isaiah 43-45; Psalm 80

  • How, according to chapter 43, should the people feel because the Lord has redeemed them?
  • Summarize in your own words the way an idol is made, according to chapter 44. Why is idolatry so foolish?
  • How many times in chapter 45 does the text affirm that the Lord is the only God?
  • What would you say is the main desire driving Psalm 80?

DAY 4 Isaiah 46-49; Psalm 135

  • As you read today, be on the lookout for how the Lord is different from idols.
  • Why will Babylon fall?
  • If you’ve ever questioned whether the Lord has forgotten you, how does chapter 49, especially verses 14-16, encourage you that he has not?
  • How is the Lord superior to idols, according to Psalm 135?

DAY 5 Isaiah 50-53

  • Be alert today for texts that predict the sufferings of Christ hundreds of years before they occurred.
  • How does God’s ability to accurately predict the future show he’s the one true God?
  • Which verses in today’s reading refer to the sufferings of Jesus?
  • Note where the text calls the readers to “wake up.” In what ways might you need to wake up in your relationship with God?

DAY 6 Isaiah 54-58

  • In what ways are chapters 54-55 an encouragement?
  • Describe the hope for non-Jewish people in chapter 56.
  • Is there any peace for the wicked, according to chapter 57?
  • What righteous actions are called for in chapter 58? What changes do you need to make in order to live this way?
