On the Focus on the Family "Plugged-In" website there are great suggestions for family activities. One such suggestion is a Movie Night. The great website has discussion guides for selected movies to help families talk about and learn about God. The Movie Night page is HERE.

Other Great Family Activities!

Monthly Craft Night
Bond with your family during a craft night. During this night you and your family can join together to make crafts for others. If you have a grandparent or other senior citizen in your home, he or she can be in charge of a craft night one month. This is an excellent way to instruct the younger generation in quilting, woodworking, caning a chair, basket weaving or other crafts. Each month allow a different family member to lead the craft night. For instance, during December you can create gifts-in-a-jar to give to friends and relatives. During a spring month, your family could create Easter baskets for an orphanage. In November, you can create interesting red, white and blue lapel pins for veterans in a senior citizen home. This type of activity brings your family together in a joint effort and creates a feeling of good will by serving others.

Recreation Night
Schedule a night each week that is considered family night for all the members of your household. Instruct everyone that it is unacceptable to make other plans on this night. Many bowling alleys, movie theaters and skating rinks have Christian family nights. Call the local venues to check when they are; if they do not have one, suggest that the business create one. Nights designated for Christian familys usually include Christian or inspirational music and discounts while at the location. Other ideas are to take long walks together on the beach to watch the sunset, go to a lake and rent a paddle boat or canoe, go to the zoo or simply take a family bike ride. This shows your children that spending quality family time together is important. Outdoor activities are an excellent way to keep fit and to enjoy God's beautiful creations.

Game Night
Gather your family together for game night. You can center your activities around Bible trivia, inspirational puzzles or interactive video games that teach Biblical virtues. This is an excellent way to spend time together and increase everyone's knowledge of the Bible. Christian games and activities are available at many Bible bookstores and Christian gift shops.

Community Service
Get your family involved in serving the community, whether it is one day a week or once a month. Your entire family can volunteer at a soup kitchen, food bank or read to senior citizens. Other ideas are to clean up or repair a section of your community, such as a local park or any area that is littered or in need of gardening or landscaping. Volunteer to collect recyclables if your city does not have a collection center and take the items to a recycling center in a neighboring town. You can entertain children at a local hospital or organize a fishing or camping trip for low-income children. Host a barbecue for low-income families at a local park. This is an excellent opportunity to share your faith with others and to serve the community.
